From January to July 2024, DLRC has been dedicated to making a significant impact through various initiatives focused on charity, education, and wellbeing.
We partnered with local schools and Mission 44 to enhance educational opportunities, organised charity events to support those in need, and hosted wellbeing talks to promote healthier lifestyles and expand our team’s knowledge of various health topics. As we move towards the second half of the year, we are excited to expand our efforts with more events, educational programs, and wellness activities.
Since January, we have supported six charities: Age UK, Blue Cross, the Linda Norgrove Foundation, Garden House Hospice, Mind, and the Wildlife Trust. Our fundraising efforts have generated over £1,300 through a step competition, a raffle, an “Are You Smarter Than a 10-Year-Old?” quiz, and a bake sale. Continuing our annual contribution, we donated over 14,000 Cadbury’s Creme Eggs to the Charlie Chick Campaign for Garden House Hospice. This helped the campaign to raise over £20,250!
We have planned several more events for the rest of the year to support Macmillan, the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance, Feeding Britain, Herts Young Homeless, Tilehouse Counselling, and Crisis.
We are committed to encouraging young people to pursue careers in STEM, and this year, our dedication has only grown stronger.
In partnership with Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People, we delivered workshops as part of Mission 44. Founded by Lewis Hamilton, Mission 44 aims to create a fairer, more inclusive education system and provide STEM employment opportunities. At the Hertfordshire Development Centre, we participated in a STEM Careers Challenge, engaging with around 55 young people from four local schools. Our team shared insights with year nine students about their job roles and career paths in STEM. Additionally, three schools joined an employability skills workshop, highlighting the importance of soft skills in job applications.
We also support one of our local secondary schools, Knights Templar School in Baldock. In June, one of our team members conducted an interview skills workshop for 140 Year 12 students to help them prepare for mock interviews. We have also supported three year 10 work experience students and three Year 12 placements students from the school. During their time with us, the students met with our experts and learned how diverse a regulatory job can be; they also helped to plan some of our upcoming team-building events!
“Everyone was so welcoming and took the time to really share their wisdom as I spoke to so many different job titles within the company – they gave me tips that will be so useful in the future.”
“Work experience at DLRC has been a truly unforgettable experience that I highly enjoyed.”
Every month, we organise and donate to charities to host a health talk for our team to attend. These talks are run by various organisations, charities, and experts in their field. Topics covered so far this year include Exercise as Medicine, Blood and Organ Donation Awareness, Autism, Five-Gyne Cancers, Domestic Abuse, and PCOS. Upcoming talks will cover topics including financial wellbeing and eating disorders.
As we reflect on our achievements from January to July 2024, we are proud of the activities we’ve completed in charity, education, and wellbeing. Our partnerships with local schools and Mission 44 have enriched educational experiences and promoted STEM. Our charity events have provided crucial support to those in need, and our wellbeing workshops have promoted awareness. Looking ahead, we remain committed to expanding these efforts. With more initiatives planned for the remainder of the year, we are excited to continue fostering positive change.
